Camera Position 209 : Your Own BackYard

During this pandemic time, we have been forced to trade in the allure of travel for the allure of the backyard. As I return to the podcast after a long absence, I explore the idea that you don’t need to go somewhere special to make special photographs. Instead, you need to go deeper wherever you are.

  1. Thanks, Roger! It’s great to be back. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to say, but I think I’ve got it! 🙂

  2. So nice to hear that long-silent opening music, the whir and click of the shutter and that familiar voice. And what a timely message! Welcome back to Podcast Land!

  3. It’s funny to hear you say the pandemic has taught you that it is not where you are but who you are and, more to the point, that you don’t need to travel to make interesting images.

For years now I’ve been telling any one that would listen that it is YOU who taught me this!!!

Perhaps lessons can and should be relearned from time to time. ??

  4. Welcome back, Jeff. Many of my early projects were small projects like you speak of. The avatar picture I quite often use on various sites was one such project. The project was to teach me to use multiple flashes and narrow depth the fields for a small-scale subject. I would often come up with such small projects to teach me some aspect of photography. This way I could teach myself new photographic techniques by concentrating on only one or 2 aspects added at the time. I personally think some of my best work came out of these projects. They definitely helped me grow as a photographer.

  5. Dean! Thanks… and yes; that sort of project-based work can help you build creativity and craft at the same time!
